Our latest research “Valorization of nitrogen and sulfur from digestate and biogas: A closed-loop approach to sulfur-rich microbial protein synthesis” by Marica Areniello, Silvio Matassa, Giovanni Esposito, and Piet N.L. Lens has been published!
The study investigates the microbial production potential by providing the culture NH₄⁺ recovered from digestate as the nitrogen source, H₂S in biogas as the sulfur source, and CH₄ as carbon and energy.

This study demonstrates a fully integrated circular approach where biogas and digestate from anaerobic digestion are transformed into high-value microbial protein while eliminating the need for external mineral nutrients.
