Excited to share that our latest MadinCircle study published in Water Research named “Impact of micropollutants and the process configuration on the performance of moving bed membrane biofilm reactor (MBMBR)” by Burak Aslancan Pak, Yamac Bal, Baraa Ahmed Hatib, Alper Bayrakdar, and Erkan Sahinkaya, is now available online 🎉
In this study, we explored how selected micropollutants (ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, carbamazepine, and triclosan) influence the efficiency of a Moving Bed Membrane Biofilm Reactor (MBMBR) treating domestic wastewater.

Over a 140-day operational period, we observed how process configuration directly impacts resilience against micropollutant toxicity. Notably, hybrid systems maintained better biological activity compared to biofilm-only setups.
Understanding how emerging contaminants affect biological treatment systems is critical for designing more robust and future-ready wastewater treatment technologies.
